Riyadh Economic Forum Discusses Maximizing Returns from Hosting Expo and the World Cup

Sunday 01 February 2026

Riyadh Economic Forum held the second discussion session of the study titled “Maximizing the Economic and Social Returns from the Kingdom’s Hosting of Expo 2030 and the 2034 World Cup”, hosted by King Khalid University in Abha. The study is being conducted as part of the Forum’s 12th cycle, scheduled to be held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in October 2026.

H.E. Dr. Naif Al-Roumi, Member of the Board of Trustees and Supervisor General of the Forum, emphasized that the Kingdom’s hosting of these major global events comes within the context of the unlimited support it receives from its wise leadership, as strategic drivers for strengthening the Kingdom’s international standing, consolidating its economic and cultural presence, and translating the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 into sustainable development achievements.

He explained that the study aims to maximize the economic and social impact of hosting these events by enhancing the Kingdom’s global image, reinforcing national identity, highlighting its rich civilizational depth, supporting GDP growth, creating quality job opportunities, stimulating local and foreign investment, developing infrastructure and digital capabilities, and activating the transport and logistics sectors—thereby boosting the competitiveness and efficiency of the national economy.

At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Al-Roumi expressed his appreciation to King Khalid University for hosting the discussion, and to the attending experts, specialists, and stakeholders whose contributions enriched the dialogue and strengthened the study’s outcomes.
